The Afridrille, our first shoe
We are raising funds to support the development and launch of our first shoe, the Afridrille. This is our most complex production item yet, helping us move toward higher value-add products that are more competitive on the market.
The Afridrille is the first fully-customizable espadrille, which is a classic Spanish shoe style that is returning to prominence in Europe and the US. Three things make this shoe special:
- Classic and customizable: Customers can choose from our ‘Classic’ colors, or go with a ‘Custom’ pair to design their shoe inside and out. This brings the custom-made-to-order manufacturing trend to rural Kenya.
- Empowering women and children: Each pair of shoes is hand-made by entrepreneurial Kenyan women, our Maker Mums. We pay above-market wages, and 100% of net income supports life-changing care for children with special needs in Kenya.
- Responsibly sourced: We develop long-term partnerships with our suppliers so we can ensure our entire supply chain is socially and environmentally responsible.
The Afridrille, our first shoe, is our most sophisticated product yet. Our Kickstarter campaign in April raised over $100,000 in pre-sales, but once you deduct production costs that leaves a very small level of financing to fund a product development and launch. We are seeking additional capital to expand our production team and invest in working capital and marketing.
